    Alexander Dumas was from France… So when you say "our" you were likely never in the same education system as him. Or, indeed the same country.

    Thanks for sharing the quotes, I got a kick out of them. You have a hard audience. Loved the Dumas quote, and you can certainly think "our" in terms of Western culture and the teaching of children. The whole point was to create obedient, law abiding adults who wouldn't rock the boat–which I consider a dumbing-down process.

    I can't remember who said this off the top of my head, but I've always loved this one "They can't open their mouths without subtracting from the sum of human knowledge."

    The first one isn't right at all. Yes, people have their area of expertise, but there are people who can deduce and learn on their own and they often do. And while the Chemist man not have a computer science degree he may be a very capable programmer. The Renaissance historian may not have a degree in geology, but loves studying sedimentary structures.

    I don't need a degree to know that not every quotation is nugget of truth.
